Book review- The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Book review- The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

What a joy of a book! Even before I opened this book, I loved the idea of this book, the concept sounded so dreamy! Well this book did not disappoint! Some books you read and some books swallow you up whole, heart and soul!

One sentence sum up of the book...

The Midnight Library is a story about a depressed woman is her 30s called Nora. On the day she decides to die, she finds herself in the Midnight Library. A magical library filled with all the lives she could have lived, in shelves and shelves of books. She starts to discover there's a lot more to life than she thought.

The Midnight Library consumed me, it was such a joy to read, I simply didn't want it to end. It's books like this that bring the true magic to reading, they transport you to another world!

I did however have a few small issues with the book personally, I found Nora hard to relate to, and that's simply because I don't think like Nora and never have, but that didn't stop me from loving this book! Nora's outlook on life was well depressing, but that's sort of the point of the story really. Yes it's a book about depression but it's almost glossed over in parts (which I didn't mind). It took the topic of depression and made it less heavy, it turned it into a beautiful visual story about the choices we make in life and the impact those choices have, not just on us but also the people around us!

It's a book I would really recommend, It's been my favourite book I've read so far this year (admittedly I haven't read much this year, but this book is going to be hard to beat!)

Here's a look at my top 5 quotes from the book...

Let's face it, none of us really know what happens after our souls leave our bodies, and the idea of hanging out in a magically library while fate decides what happens nexts, sounds like a great idea to me! I love this idea so much, which is why it's one of my favourite quotes from the book.

This quote really struck a cord with me, I think it's a beautiful quote about being true to yourself!

I'm a big believer in the small things, all the small little things in our lives make up the big things. We are often so busy living we forget about the small things. Small things that can make a difference! Don't forget about the little things!

In the book, this is such a powerful quote! To learn anything new you have to try it, I think the same applies to life, you have to live it, it's the only way to learn!

One of lifes great questions, what does it all mean, what is the meaning of life! We don't need to know the meaning we just have to get out there and live it!

Have you read 'The Midnight Library' by Matt Haig, I'd love to know what you thought of it!
